Side Quest: Collage-Mix media, an Adventure to loving Illustration Process
Honestly, ever since the last collage-mix media portrait I did, I started to enjoy illustration process even more. The main reason why I do a lot of sketches and linework, with much simpler coloring style is because I don't like an illustration that is made with very controlled brushstrokes and very polished. The kind of illustration that is usually done 9 months or more per illustration.
The main reason why I love doing art is because how much I can play around with the techniques, and the feedbacks I got most of the time is that my illustration coloring process is too messy, that it was perceived as 'too hasty' or 'not paying more attention to my own craftmanship'
While I do agree that my coloring process illustration is very sketchy, I would like to amplify that aspect even more. This is because, I am no longer working under a studio and I decided that I will be the one handling all of these creative process; In other words, I am paving my own path to become my own independent artist.
The podcast that inspired my latest collage mix-media art

And here is the collage mix-media art that inspired it! Also I didn't know that Kites looks more closely to an Eagle and Hawks. Because I've always thought Kites are related to Swallow. Maybe because a swallow's tail reminds me of a kite!
And this is the RAW base collage that I use for the illustration. It is very messy, and that's the point! Plus my own hand for the scale of the actual base collage for the illustration!
Thanks to me experimenting with the collage as a base technique, I had more fun playing around with the illustration process. It is not so much like assembly line process that I usually did for many of my simple coloring commissions and illustrations!
I think I am going to incorporate this illustration method by mixing collage cutout as a way to make more playful illustration that is so "myself" and I am super excited about it!
